Description
Our 5-day package is designed for experienced installers preparing for the SAPVIA PV GreenCard Assessment. Over 3 days, you’ll cover essential solar theory, ensuring you’re up to date with the latest standards. The final 2 days are dedicated to the assessment. This course ensures you’re prepared and working according to the manual.
Target Audience
The PV GreenCard Assessment is a competency test for PV installers. Participants should:
- Have a technical background and PV installation experience
- Be familiar with the SAPVIA Solar PV Installation guidelines and with national electrical codes, building codes and regulations relevant for PV installations
Main Topics
Day 1 & 2: Preparation for Theoretical Assessment
- PV basics, terminology
- Electrical basics (symbols, Ohms law, power, energy)
- PV components and operation, system types
- Site visits – important considerations, planning
- PV Design basics
- Installation planning
- Compliant installation (SANS 10142 regulations, inspection and testing)
Day 3: Preparation for Practical Assessment
- Safety: Toolbox talk and risk assessment
- Installation planning & best practices
- Earth bonding
- Reading and preparing single line and wiring diagrams
- Inverter and protection wiring according to SANS 10142-1
- PV system inspection testing
Day 4: Theoretical Assessment
- Introduction & Explanation of Assessment Process
- Theoretical Assessment (exam in the classroom)
- Familiarisation workshop and induction
Day 5: Practical Assessment
- Random selection of installation teams (up to 5 members per team)
- Practical examination on installation and wiring of a grid-tied PV system on assessment roofs

Accreditation
Certificate of Approval issued by SAPVIA on a successful pass of the PV GreenCard Assessment. The certificate bears the name of the individual who passed the assessment (not the company name).
