GREEN Internship Partner Programme
Starting in 2022, GREEN will offer solar training for South African youth. Our vision is a 4-week blended training programme based on our successful SuperSolarSchool foundational course. We will target learners who have achieved a matric pass of 50% in maths and physics as well as FET graduates who took electrical and construction subjects.
Students will spend three weeks mastering practical and theoretical skills in PV solar power, and then one week taking part in a personal development programme to equip them with vital work ethics and life skills. After the month-long training is complete, interns will be assisted to take up a 5-month internship at a GREEN Partner Company. And at the end of the 6 month period, all interns will have the opportunity to participate in the SAPVIA PV GreenCard Assessment.
The program is 6 months in duration, with 1 month of training followed by a 5-month internship with a GREEN Partner Company. The purpose of the internship is for interns to gain practical working experience, to develop a portfolio of work guided by a mentor from the GREEN Partner Company; and for the GREEN Partner Company to assess if there is potential for the intern to join as a full-time employee.
Our internship programme is based on the highly-successful and sustainable model in action at Life Choices, the GREEN Solar Academy partner for trainings in Cape Town. Life Choices’ Coding Academy is aimed at youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds; while at Life Choices, they learn coding, design thinking and undergo professional development to prepare them for the working world. They are then assisted to secure internships, many of which turn into offers of full-time employment. The quality of the graduates is so high, that companies return time and again to snap up the next crop of interns.
Support GREEN in its mission to bridge the gap between the future of energy and the energy of the future by creating space for PV Installer interns at your installation company. Together, we can take responsibility for the growth of our industry: we all possess the power to influence its development in a healthy and sustainable direction. You can download the overview of the GREEN Internship Partner Programme as well as a Letter of Intent to demonstrate your support of GREEN’s initiative and willingness to absorb interns. Completed Letters of Intent can be emailed to management@solar-training.org.
