According to a survey by allAfrica, a typical business is losing around ZW$2,5 million in annual sales due to the power outages. This is not likely to improve as the prolonged power cuts can last up to 18 hours a day due to the struggling power sector (like Kariba Power Station).<\/p><p>These power cuts have also resulted in a large decline in labour productivity, with about 87% of the surveyed business\u2019 confirming that the increase in power outages had reduced their labour productivity. Businesses are forced to remain idle during power cuts (with most happening during the week during working hours). This means that businesses need to compensate on the weekends or outside of normal working hours, which results in large bills of overtime pay so that they can meet normal output levels.<\/p><p>The introduction of solar power into the business sector will save businesses massive amounts of money by compensating for power outages which happen during the day when the sun is out.
