  • Self-paced eLearning
  • Classroom learning
  • Hands-on practical workshops
  • On-site practical projects
  • Workplace exposure
  • Assessments
  • Coaching & mentoring

Example Programmes

We combine our quality-assured training courses into structured learning pathways that align with your skills development goals. Whether you need an intensive 10-day programme or a comprehensive 12-month training pathway for beginners, we can tailor a solution that introduces newcomers to solar, prepares participants for employment, or develops experienced technicians to industry-recognised standards. Below are some examples of programmes we’ve successfully delivered:

Entry into solar

Entry-level courses for groups without a technical background, e.g. youth. These extended version of our basic courses to allow for more time with the trainers. Optional GREEN certification.

Upskilling

Upskill technically-inclined people such as technicians with focus on employment in the PV maintenance sector.

PV GreenCard

Official PV GreenCard qualification for electricians and technicians on intermediate level

Mix and match your customised training content

Those who have prepared a training themselves know that training development takes time. Especially when not only slides need to be created but handouts, exercises, additional learning material and so on. At GREEN we have built up a pool of learning material that is available for regular and tailored training.

Depending on the needs and budget of our customers we have three options for tailored training:

  1. Book an existing course as it is; adjustments can be made regarding location and timing of course.
  2. We adjust an existing course, swap out single modules to be a better fit but all is based on existing content.
  3. We develop a course for you from scratch, completely customised.

In a first consultation we will ask a couple of questions about your training goals, target group and time frame. In most cases we will be able to quote you on a solution that fulfils both your training and budget requirements.

Possible learning methods:

  • Self-paced eLearning
  • Classroom learning
  • Hands-on practical workshops
  • On-site practical projects
  • Workplace exposure
  • Assessments
  • Coaching & mentoring

Delivery wherever you are

When training larger groups, especially in remote areas, transport often becomes a challenge and a driving factor for the training costs. Our trainers are willing to travel and are able to offer solar training basically everywhere if there is a projector and flipchart available! Even basic practical training can be carried out: we have solar experimental kits and small portable equipment for showcase.

For full practical training including an installation on a training roof it is usually easier to use our premises than equipping a workshop locally. We have at least three mock roofs available at each of our academies and can easily host even larger groups for practical training.

You can share your expectations, plans and concerns with us and we can create a solution around that.

Blended Learning: Optimising quality and costs

Blended learning combines the flexibility of eLearning with the practical benefits of classroom and hands-on training. By moving theory online, organisations can reduce training costs or improve quality of training by using the eLearning as a solid base for teachers to refer to.

GREEN Solar Academy has developed digital learning modules covering the fundamentals of solar PV, technical concepts and specialist topics which actually have been tested in real training programmes. We now have entire modules of blended learning readily available that we can either use to train larger cohorts of trainees or make them available to organisations building their own training capacity on a license fee model.

With quality training in mind, we are using the best of both worlds: the flexibility and scalability of online learning combined with the engagement and practical competence that can only be achieved through face-to-face training.

Certification and accreditation

Depending on the programme, participants may receive:

  • Certificates of Participation
  • GREEN and DGS qualifications
  • ECSA CPD points
  • PV GreenCard qualification
  • QCTO-aligned certificate and credits

Organisations we work with

The rapid growth and increasing professionalisation of the solar industry have created new demands for quality-assured training and recognised accreditation. Whether you’re upskilling your own workforce or investing in CSR, ESD or community skills development programmes, choosing the right training partner is essential to achieving meaningful, measurable outcomes.

Training budgets represent a significant investment, and delivering real impact requires more than simply enrolling people on a course. GREEN has extensive experience designing and delivering successful skills development initiatives for companies, municipalities, TVET Colleges, NGOs and development partners. From programme design and participant selection to training, certification and reporting, we ensure your investment translates into genuine skills development and lasting industry impact.

Below are some of the organisations that trust GREEN to deliver quality-assured solar training and skills development programmes:

Skills and accreditation programme development

GREEN partners with governments, regulators, development agencies and industry bodies to strengthen national solar sectors through sustainable skills development systems. From stakeholder consultation and programme design to assessor training, accreditation frameworks and pilot implementation, we help establish quality-assured training and assessment programmes that build local capacity and support the long-term growth of the solar industry.

Project Example: Development of a solar PV installer accreditation programme in Eswatini

GREEN Solar Academy was appointed as technical consultant by the Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority (ESERA) to develop a national Solar PV Installer Accreditation Programme, covering stakeholder consultation, programme design, assessor training, assessment development and pilot implementation. The project laid the foundation for a nationally recognised licensing and assessment system for solar PV installers in Eswatini.

GREEN first facilitated the Technical Working Group (TWG) and stakeholder engagement process to define accreditation requirements and an implementation roadmap.

Working closely with ESERA and industry stakeholders, GREEN then designed the national PV Installer Accreditation Programme, developed the assessment procedures and supporting documentation, trained assessors, supported the establishment of the assessment centre, and guided the successful pilot implementation of Eswatini’s first PV installer assessments.

Enterprise & Supplier Development (ESD)

GREEN partners with manufacturers, distributors and corporate organisations to develop industry-funded training programmes that create measurable impact. We are able to manage the complete training journey – from candidate selection and quality-assured training to certification and impact reporting.

Project Example: Solar Career Booster

This programme identified South African candidates with the greatest potential to succeed in the solar industry but limited access to funding.

Successful applicants received a R11 500 training subsidy from IBC SOLAR | SOLARWORLD Africa towards a professional solar training pathway delivered by GREEN Solar Academy. Participants contributed towards the remaining cost themselves, creating a shared investment in their future careers.

GREEN managed the programme from start to finish. This included promoting the opportunity, screening and selecting candidates, delivering the training, assessing participants and reporting back to the programme partners on the outcomes.

Let’s build your training programme together

Whether you’re training 20 young people in one community or developing a national workforce programme, we can help you design a solution that creates lasting impact.
