Every August, we run a campaign called the HIDDEN GEMS Challenge designed to encourage more women to pursue careers in the solar industry. And we make it easier for women to get the training they need to succeed in those careers by given them 20% OFF any training they book and pay for –  for themselves or another woman – during Women’s Month.

Since our Alumni network is predominantly male, we challenge YOU to unearth these HIDDEN GEMS and refer them to GREEN for training. And for each woman who books and pays for a training, you get one entry into our lucky draw at the end of the campaign. Have a look at the prizes on offer:

Are you a woman keen to stamp her mark in the solar industry?

If you are a HIDDEN GEM yourself and you’ve come across GREEN, then WELCOME! We’ve been running this campaign for four years, and we never tire of seeing more female faces in our classes getting the training that will allow them to do their jobs with confidence.

Many of the women in our industry are in sales and marketing positions, this is true: women have an extremely pro-social agenda and employ reciprocal (asking questions) and collaborative (“we will achieve this together”) language. They will listen to customer concerns and questions that go beyond the facts and figures, and take the time to ensure the end-user truly grasps the scope and limitations of their system, managing expectations for a more pleasing outcome.

But there is an increasing number of females who have a STEM background and come into the industry as technicians, system designers and project managers, or as the founders of their own solar businesses. We offer a variety of short professional courses to bridge the gap between your current industry and the PV industry, whether you need hands-on practical system installation skills or solar business management skills.

What sort of women carve out careers in the solar industry?

ALL sorts of women! Let’s have a look at just three of the industry’s HIDDEN GEMS unearthed in previous campaigns who attended our training:

Marli Kriek studied environmental management and developed a deep interest in renewable energy. She joined a start-up solar company where she serves as an operations manager, overseeing the coordination and implementation of solar projects.

Thobeka Zuma is a Quantity Surveying graduate. Her focus is on green building in the construction field and teaching high school kids about solar and the power of the sun!

Thoko Ndlovu is a Health and Safety Practitioner with a background in CCTV systems. She has worked her way through several short professional GREEN courses and seeks to obtain her PV GreenCard.

FAQs

Which courses can be booked with the HIDDEN GEMS Discount?

You can choose from ANY of our trainings taking place this year, as long as you book and pay by 31 August 2024. And you must be a woman booking a course for yourself or another woman to get the discount.

Can only men be entered into the HIDDEN GEMS Challenge lucky draw?

Not at all! If your recommendation encouraged another woman to register for one of our trainings, they can submit your name into the draw.
