Description
With an increasing amount of PV systems installed, the need for qualified maintenance grows similarly. This course covers all tasks solar maintenance technicians have to perform and offers an opportunity to practice correct maintenance on real-life PV systems in our workshop. We will be conducting visual inspections of mechanical components, cleaning panels and inverters according to the book (and IEC 62446-2 standards) and safely applying corrective measures with proper documentation.
A key part of the course is understanding maintenance roles and limits of responsibility. Participants are enabled to distinguish between tasks that can safely be carried out by a general maintenance officer and those that require escalation to a qualified electrician or structural specialist.
The course provides a balanced mix of theoretical knowledge and practical application to create a basic understanding of PV systems which leads to maintenance procedures being carried out more effectively.
After completing the course, participants will be able to plan maintenance schedules, perform visual inspections, interpret monitoring data, carry out routine corrective maintenance, complete maintenance logbooks, and identify when specialist intervention is required.
To support implementation in practice, we share useful tools such as checklists and maintenance schedules. This course is ideal for individuals seeking to perform routine maintenance on solar PV systems ranging from 20 kW to 1 MW whereby same maintenance principles can also be applied to smaller residential systems.
Main Topics
- Maintenance procedures, needs and frequency
- Visual inspection and preventative maintenance of key components incl. HV batteries (practical exercise)
- Corrective maintenance and replacements (practical exercise)
- Maintenance protocols, responsibilities and authority
- Completing maintenance logbooks and documenting repairs (practical exercise)
- Basics of online monitoring and interpreting the results
Prerequisites
This course is mostly hands-on. Anyone who is interested can join the course - a qualification as an electrician is not required. Electricians or staff with technical experience on solar PV systems however have an advantage and will be able to practice more of the advanced maintenance and repair tasks during the practical exercises.
Target Audience
- Facilities managers / Caretakers of premises with solar systems e.g. malls and solar-covered parking lots
- Solar Installers
- Maintenance Technicians
- Electricians working with solar Installations
Accreditation
International accreditation by the German Solar Energy Society DGS e.V.
