QCTO accredited solar training
GREEN is registered with QCTO

QCTO is SA’s public entity responsible for quality assurance and the oversight of the design, accreditation, implementation, assessment and certification of occupational qualifications, part-qualifications and skills programmes.

GREEN is a QCTO-accredited Skills Development Provider (SDP). GREEN is accredited to offer the 20-credit, 25-day long occupational Skills Programme called Workplace Essential Skills, and we have started the application for the 24-credit, 30-day long occupational Skills Programme called Renewable Energy Workshop Assistant. Both skill programmes were developed based on the following qualifications:
- 120863 Higher Occupational Certificate: Solar Photovoltaic Standalone Service Technician (344 credits)
- 120883 National Occupational Certificate: Solar Photovoltaic Standalone Systems Installer (211 credits)
- 120885 Occupational Certificate: Solar Photovoltaic Standalone System Mounter (84 credits)
Various service providers are accredited for the qualifications above, but so far only the ECA, the Electrical Contractors Association (South Africa, offers only the Solar PV Service Technician certificate.

Do you have the time to pursue a QCTO certificate?
Very often participants ask if our courses are accredited with QCTO. Very often participants ask if our courses are accredited with QCTO, the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations. The short answer is that, yes, GREEN Solar Academy has QCTO-accreditation. To understand how the accreditation is relevant, it is helpful to understand the role of the QCTO, which is to oversee the design, implementation, assessment and certification of occupational qualifications.
It must be noted that while a company may hold a QCTO accreditation for a course or courses, the accreditation may not necessarily apply for the specific course being recommended for the training. As you will see from the three skills programmes listed above, the hours required to earn each of these full qualifications is largely unfeasible for those who have limited free time to devote to training.

You may find more value in SAIEE accreditation
At GREEN we do not offer full qualifications; instead we offer short-term professional courses, ideal for continuous education. Our courses target professionals who already have a qualification or work experience, who want to upskill their knowledge or prepare themselves to start to work in the PV industry. The professionals are mostly already employed and have limited hours to dedicate to further education. They desire maximum impact that builds upon their existing knowledge in the shortest possible time. And this is why our courses are SAIEE accredited.
We offer youth trainining and are able to include the QCTO qualifications in the youth training programmes to give them a valid national qualification.
SAIEE, the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers, is a professional association for electrical and electronic engineers, technologists, and technicians and as such, is listed with ECSA, the Engineering Council of South Africa. SAIEE is a professional body which offers trainings to its members but also endorses training programmes from external training providers.
